“I dreamt Jesus was walking with me and told me, ‘It’ll be okay,” said smiling 66-year-old Aura, mother of six children and caretaker of 19. “So I know my God will always supply my needs.” Out of Christ-like compassion for the needy, especially homeless mothers and their children, Aura keeps taking them into her own home—including a young girl who expects to give birth any day.
A poor widow, Anna lives in simple cement dwelling on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Her house requires constant upkeep but according to Cross International Projects Officer, Sophie Jeune, “she is SO resourceful!” With the money she and her son earn working at a dog kennel and other odd jobs, she fixes what she can. At one point she chopped down a tree in her yard to clear land so she could build onto her house—block by block—to make room for more people.
Aura is a hard worker with a heart of gold, and she pours her resources into the people God puts in her path. Hers is one of 95 families who receive food staples provided by St. Martin of Tours Parish through funding from Cross Catholic. Fr. Bob Johnson, parish priest, told Cross Catholic, “Your assistance has allowed our people to more fully realize their own self-worth and dignity, and has also been part of the greatest gift they could ever receive – the gift of hope.”
