Great news from Grenada!

An example of the housing conditions poor families face in Grenada.
An example of the housing conditions poor families face in Grenada.

I love hearing stories about how Cross Catholic Outreach has changed lives. So when I heard about this precious family in Grenada, I had to share it with you. Single mom Bernadette Mahon and her six children used to live in a dilapidated shack in a small impoverished village known simply as “The Coconut.” The roof leaked, the floor sagged, the wood was rotting away and it provided no security for the Mahon family. And because the home had no basic plumbing, her children had to walk three miles every day to retrieve water! Bernadette doesn’t make much money at her job farming vegetables—so affording a new house was out of the question. Because she was concerned about the safety of her children, Bernadette and her children moved-in with her mother, whose home wasn’t much better.

But life has changed for the Mahons, who moved into a new home built for them by Cross Catholic Outreach through our mission partner, the Diocese of Grenada. Bernadette and her children now have a safe, warm and dry place to call home. Another benefit: the house has plumbing, so the children don’t have make the long and treacherous journey for water each day. Bernadette wanted Cross Catholic Outreach supporters to know how thankful she is, “God has answered my prayers! I can’t thank you enough for your help.”
