Nomads No More

Project: Baraka Catholic Kindergarten
Location: Kenya

In Kenya’s Rift Valley, the Maasai tribe has been living a nomadic lifestyle for generations. Father John Fortune is evangelizing the Maasai through education and spiritual formation in the village of Ewuaso Kedong. Because of the school, both children and adults have been baptized into the Catholic faith. Thanks to faithful giving, Cross Catholic Outreach is able to support the Parish’s Baraka Catholic Kindergarten by providing food for the breakfast and lunch program.

Not only do these meals meet an urgent physical need for young children, but also they encourage their parents to begin educating them at an early age. We believe these meals are the first step in breaking the cycle of poverty!

OUR HUNGRY WORLD:

  • An estimated 795 MILLION people are hungry or malnourished in the world today. That’s one in nine people!
  • For children who attend primary school, 66 MILLION go to school hungry each day.
  • FORTY-FIVE PERCENT people are hungry or malnourished in the world today.
  • A MAJORITY of malnourished people live in the world’s developing countries.
