Seeking Safe Shelter

Hard to believe that someone actually lives in the leaning wooden shack you see here. Luminado de los Santos told us his home has been gradually collapsing as a result of strong winds, and that he now sleeps in the kitchen because he’s afraid the house will fall on him. “If it rains at night, I get wet. It gets very cold here at night. If it rains, it gets even worse.” Luminados is one of a number of Dominicans on the list to receive sturdy new houses this year through Cross Catholic Outreach and FUNDASEP, an outreach of the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana.
