As the kuya (eldest brother), John Allen plans to bring his family with him as he climbs the ladder out of poverty. Sure enough, through a scholarship from Cross Catholic Outreach he is gaining skills at Don Bosco Technical School that will soon benefit his entire family.
John’s currently serving an internship with a company that provides software for digital imaging systems such as CAT scans. The company director prefers to scout employees from Don Bosco. He said, “For us, it’s the moral values that make Don Bosco graduates stand out, more than the specific technical skills that they gain. Both are important, but it’s the character and attitude, gained from the moral and spiritual formation at the school, that makes them stand out.”
John feels confident about the on-the-job training that has added to his technical skills. “I’ve learned more about computers and communicating with colleagues and customers,” he said. Where does he see himself five years from now? “I hope to be working abroad and supporting my family.”
