We’ve been excited here at HQ ever since we got a very special envelope from the Holy See. In it was an invitation addressed to the President of Cross Catholic Outreach, James J. Cavnar, and our Director of Clergy & Diocesan Relations, Monsignor Ted Bertagni. They’d been asked to participate in the XXIX Plenary Assembly of Pontifical Council Cor Unum at the Vatican in Rome January 19 – 21!
The Pontifical Council Cor Unum is charged with “the concrete realization of the charitable intention of the Holy Father.” We can’t wait to hear about the Plenary Session, which this year is titled, “Charity, Christian Anthropology and Global Ethics.”
Mr. Cavnar and Monsignor Bertagni will be part of a worldwide body of representatives from various Catholic charitable organizations. It is a great honor for them to be included as collaborators with Pontifical Cor Unum and they are encouraged to give direction and scope to Cor Unum’s ministries.
In a letter to Cross Catholic earlier this year, Cardinal Robert Sarah, President of Pontifical Council Cor Unum, wrote, “As President of the Vatican Dicastery responsible for His [the Holy Father’s] charitable solicitude, I wish to encourage the possibilities for aid that come from our collaboration with Cross Catholic Outreach. Such help is a most commendable expression of the Catholic Church’s care for the poor and needy, making manifest the charity of Christ.” CLICK HERE to read Cardinal Sarah’s complete letter.
